The next decision was which kit should I build? After pouring over magazines and reports I came up with 2 contenders in my price range: AK and DAX.     

I decided to visit AK first, in Peterborough. They worked from the back of their house in a couple of workshops at the time, apparently now they have a unit on an industrial estate. Their car is designed to use as many parts from donor cars as possible, keeping the cost down and yet not compromising on quality. Unfortunately their demonstrator was not available for a test drive, despite the fact that I had booked in advance, so I came away very disappointed.       

So onto DAX. Their latest demonstrator of the time had just been completed, and did that look good or what? It has slightly flared front arches, to allow 17" wheels to fit under it, sits very low and looks extremely mean. I was sold before the test drive, but after, there was no going back, I had to have one!

I warn you now, don't go to visit DAX unless you are sure you want to build a Cobra and can afford it, because you will not be able to leave without ordering one!
